Watching a kitchen remodel done at warp speed on a 30-minute television show can be exciting. Living through an actual remodel that takes anywhere from three weeks to three months (or more) can be excruciating. Especially if you’re not prepared.

So during the construction phase of your remodel, it’s important to understand how long the process will take and what challenges you can expect along the way. Some things to consider before construction takes place are:

• Talking to your designer or contractor about the timeframe of the project.
• How you will manage all the dirt and dust that will surface while construction is going on.
• Where you will you eat and how you will cook during the course of your project.
