“The clients were serious cooks who wanted a modern kitchen with an Old World feel. The texture created by a variety of materials makes the space interesting: clear Shaker maple cabinets, an antique French terra cotta floor, a tumbled marble backsplash, black absolute granite countertops, a stainless steel hood and range, an oversized pot rack, and a wall painted to look like ancient stone with grapevines.
"The wall mural adds a garden element that draws from the clients’ Italian villa. A throw rug softens the stone and adds color. The natural materials add texture to this modern, very functional kitchen so that it retains a warm, cozy feeling. It’s a very soft room for all the hard materials in it.”
