From Mediocre to Medieval

Michael Lowry Photography

The remodel remade the old kitchen’s work triangle, replacing the large outer island and tiny inner island with one massive 6-foot, ½-inch by 11-foot, ½-inch island—the room’s centerpiece for food preparation, cleanup, conversation and entertaining more than 50 guests. Moving the wall ovens and microwave closer to the refrigerator also improved the kitchen’s workflow. Bringing the home’s warm wood tones into the kitchen, Caccavello replaced the ceramic tile flooring with hand-scraped hickory floors and the oak cabinets with rustic alder cabinetry in a rich coffee bean hue with a glazed and distressed finish.
