Kitchen Islands

Idea 5: An Entertainment Hub

Advantages

Whether the occasion is a pizza party for the soccer team or acquaintances for cocktails, guests tend to gather around an island. Including a beverage center or wine refrigerator in the island on the side away from the cook makes soda, juice, beer or wine easily accessible to all. If that sounds like a reason not to get a wine fridge, look for a model with a lock on it. Considering adding a bar sink to the island as well.

The island top can double as a buffet during parties.

Design Tip

When the back side of the island is not used as an eating area, use it to make a visual transition to the living or dining room. Wine racks, book shelves and other furniture details can enhance both design style and the flow between rooms.
