Kitchen Islands

Idea 4: Cooking Center

Advantages

By putting the cooktop or range at the island, the cook can keep dinner moving while also keeping an eye on kids or talking with guests. To keep those folks safe, allow at least 9 inches of counter space behind the cooktop if it is on an island with just one surface level.

Design Tip

Either select a sleek chimney hood to create a stylish focal point in the kitchen, or maintain open sight lines by installing a downdraft ventilation system into the island. These systems lower into the cabinetry when not in use.
