Kitchen Islands

Idea 1: A Basic Built-In

Advantages

A basic built-in kitchen island consists of cabinetry and a countertop, providing extra storage and counter space in a kitchen without needing to be installed against a wall. Accessible from all four sides, this island offers multiple chefs (and young cooks-in-training) the chance to work together.

As a bonus, extending the counter provides seating and dining space for two or more.

Design Tip

Add interest to the kitchen by choosing a different-colored stain for the island cabinetry or using a different countertop material, as shown here.
