Since crisp geometric shapes and natural materials are essential to Asian-inspired design, it was important for this kitchen to create a focal point that called attention to these design principles. By paneling the bar area and exterior wall of the kitchen in bamboo planks, a stunning focal point with Asian influence was achieved. To accentuate the geometric nature of the panel placement, perpendicular slabs of countertop were placed around the bar area. The work-area of the kitchen features cherry wood cabinets with a recessed paneling and a rich finish. Contrasting the dark sienna cabinets is a soft-colored laminate countertop meant to mimic soapstone. Porcelain backsplash tiles with floral prints provide the kitchen a touch of Asian décor, and the color of the tiles has tones similar to the cabinets. The flooring in the room is made from bamboo with a caramel finish, and has a similar look to the planks that surround the bar area. Finally, in the dining room there is a painting of Sakura blossoms on an orange canvas, which injects the space with color and another dose of Asian-inspired décor.
