Wondering what excited the design elite at the 2009 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show? A panel of 11 award-winning kitchen, bath and interior designers selected the best new products in the kitchen and bath categories from more than 90 eligible entries. And the winners are :
Best of Competition & Gold Award: Stainless steel sink by Affluence Seamless Sink.
Removing the goo that collects around the kitchen sink's drain is a thankless task, and one that can be avoided with a stainless steel sink from Affluence Seamless Sink. How? No circular seam or flanges around the drain to catch food and other fearsome particles. Another advantage: the sinks' integrated design eliminates the need to purchase a separate drain kit and shortens installation time.
So far, the sinks come in single- and double-bowl models of varying shapes and sizes, and are drop-in/self-rimming style.
Gold Award: High-gloss acrylic cabinetry doors by Element Designs.
Acrylic doors in kiwi.
High-gloss acrylic is the stuff of which high-end contemporary cabinets are made. Now offered by Element Designs, Parapan acrylic doors come in 17 crazy and classic colors that run throughout the material, so scratches can be removed by buffing and polishing. Resistance to water and UV rays make them durable and easy to maintain.
Matching panels can be used to cover appliances or the end of a cabinet run.
Silver Award: Cabinetry by Atlantis Outdoor Kitchens.
Bamboo doors, drawer heads and end panels on Permal Panel cabinet boxes.
For an outdoor kitchen with the style of an indoor kitchen, Atlas Outdoor Kitchens introduced Perma Panel cabinetry, made from a polymer material designed to withstand snow, rain, cold and heat. Available in seven Perma Panel colors and nine door styles, this line of frameless custom outdoor cabinets also includes decorative molding and storage accessories.
Prefer the look of wood? Atlantis offers wood doors and drawer heads in cypress, teak and bamboo, all species known for their weather resistance.
Peoples' Choice Award: Star range hood by Elica Collection.
Elica Collection's latest designer range hood won the popular award, as voted by K/BIS attendees. Covered in hundreds of glass prisms, the aptly named "Star" illuminates as well as ventilates.
With a maximum airflow of 400 cubic meters per hour (235 cubic feet per minute), this ventilation hood can't handle high Btus; but it sure brings the bling.
