Design Notes: This kitchen may appear to have a quilted carpet on the floor and backsplash areas, but don't let your eyes deceive you: The floor and backsplash are made from mosaic glass tiles arranged to have a quilted effect. The array of colors reflects the clients' creative personality as well as their love of vibrant peacock feathers. Overall, 22 different colors comprise the quilted look, which designer Ken Kelly created with help from an interior decorator who is also a quilter. The kitchen's original vaulted ceiling featured track lighting. No longer vaulted, the ceiling is now 9-feet high and has recessed lighting. It's far from boring, however: Above the island is a tray ceiling boasting a peacock feather mural.
