A Bright Transitional Kitchen

NKBA Award Winning transitional kitchen design for two cooks
2011 NKBA Design Award: Small Kitchens - First Place brooksBerry Kitchens & BathsSt. Louis, MODesigner: Chris Novak BerryCo-Designer: Julie Gragg

Design Notes: With two young homeowners who both cook, this kitchen was remodeled with more light and better use of space to make the most of the room. By removing a pantry and soffits, the designer added more space while new lighting brightened the room. A clean transitional design balances warm white and brown cabinetry with stainless steel accents.

Design Notes: Inspired by Beaux Arts art and architecture, this kitchen design uses eclectic styles and strict symmetry. A custom mosaic countertop and pale green cabinetry make the island stand out from the white marble and white cabinets on the walls. At right, the "Chinese wedding cabinet" conceals the refrigerator.

Period Piece Kitchen

Pennsylvania Old World Kitchen by Kevin Ritter

Timeless Kitchen DesignMalvern, PA
Kitchen by Kevin Ritter

Design Notes: Subtract the modern appliances from this Pennsylvania kitchen and it would look like it belongs in the early 1900s. Of course, the family of four that lives here were not about to sacrifice modern amenities, but they still wanted a space with vintage style to match their early 20th century home. Designer Kevin Ritter and his father Bryce constructed the cabinetry using reclaimed lumber, antique glass and hand-wrought hardware. The island countertop is made from the floor of an old Pennsylvania barn, and the rest of the kitchen's countertops are made from concrete. And while the range is modern, the homeowners chose it from Aga's Legacy Series, which is designed to look like vintage stoves.
