The fantastic seascape is undoubtedly the star of this space, and Broderick’s design goal was to not detract from it. “I wanted to keep the kitchen and the house in neutral so what you’re really focusing on is the view,” said Broderick. “Everybody does blue and white, everybody does turquoise… I wanted [the home] to look elegant.”
The appliances used in the kitchen are from Jenn-Air’s White Floating Glass collection. Broderick chose complementary neutral materials such as a honed Calacatta Oro marble countertop and a backsplash in sandy shades of limestone and marble.
Broderick’s design was inspired by a friend’s home located on California's central coastline between Santa Cruz and Monterey. Her friend’s home serves as an occasional meeting place for members of Mercey Springs, a non-profit that Broderick and her friend are involved in. “[The inside of] her house is not at all like [my dream] house, so one of the things I did was show how I would build a house in that location,” says Broderick. After her friend sees this design, she might be asking Broderick for a remodeling favor in the near future.
