A Converted Piano

"The client is an avid antiques collector and she purchased the island on their own, intending to base her new kitchen around it. We initially thought it was an old general store's checkout counter, but later realized it was actually the bottom of an upright piano. The island was purchased in a finished form, with wooden top. The client's eclectic collection of antique stools is located where the player would have sat at the piano."

"Because the island was to be the kitchen's central element, we worked with Wood-Mode to create a custom stain for the room's cabinetry. The island's main purpose is to display her many antiques. It really is multi-function, though, as it is used as a buffet for entertaining, as a place to sit and have morning coffee, and as an area to make cookies with her grandchildren."
