Weigh Down Your Ceiling

White ceilings are fine, but heavy, aged beams make it less boring, says Karen Black-Sigler, CKD, of Karen Black's Kitchens By Design of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. "These beams are usually so weathered looking that a typical, formal crown moulding detail is eliminated. Unlike barrel ceiling detailing, the aged beams can be added to the ceiling detail almost anytime during the decision-making process. Although the beams are not structural, the intent is to make them look like they are."
