“The main kitchen cabinets are cherry with a medium finish, while the island is cherry painted black and weathered with an antique rub-through. In the dining area, we used the same cabinets, but with a few changes that gave the space an 'other room' look and that tied the cabinets and the island together.

"The cabinets in the dining area pick up the black in the island with an onyx beaded accent on the inside profile of the doors. We inverted the cabinets in the dining area so that the larger doors are on top and the smaller doors and spice drawers are on the bottom. That arrangement helps highlight the featured glass cabinets, which are extended out by 3 inches and given a beveled edge to create a cozy effect. 

"We also took the cabinets to the ceiling line in the kitchen and then left 1 1/2 feet at the top of those in the dining area so they’d look more like a buffet. The design ties the two spaces together and creates a great room concept.”
